About

The Woodworkers Tower is the Northernmost of the towers on Cetăţii Street, built in the 14th century and being part of the third fortification belt of Sibiu City. Its name comes from the Woodworkers guild which was appointed to maintain and defend it.

The Woodworkers Tower is made of stone and brick, having a circular shape at the base, delimited from the next portion by a clean-cut cornice, after which the tower turns into the shape of an octagonal prism, finalized at the upper side by a protuberant piece, supported by consoles with mouths between the arches.

At the first level of the tower there are ramparts shaped like keyholes, made especially to enable harquebuses fire. The superior side of the tower is protuberant and it leans on consoles that have connections arches provided with dropping holes.
