Some say, in Transylvania, time travel is posibile. To us, Transylvania is “home” and that’s why we feel responsible to be welcoming hosts and to share with our guests its nature, its customs, its history, its food, its legends, its people. We will show you all of this on the original cultural riding tours concept.
Villa Abbatis Equestrian Center is part of a much wider project and its history goes back to spring 2011.
We offer cultural day trips and riding holidays on horseback as described on our website.

Dominating the hill in the heart of the village, the imposing Biertan fortified church seems to come off a painter’s easel. Biertan is among the most visited Saxon villages in Transylvania, with its fortified church appearing on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1993.
The present church was built in 1522. The Late Gothic style architecture predominates, with Renaissance influences, this being the last church-fortified hall of this kind in Transylvania. Starting from 1572 Biertan became the Evangelic Episcopal See for three centuries. The church boasts the largest polyptych altar in Transylvania, consisting of 28 painted panels, while the pews dating from the 16th century are considered the most valuable in Transylvania. The famous door of the sacristy is an amazing medieval gem with its impressive complex system of 19 locks, rewarded at the Paris World’s Fair in 1900.
One of the tourists attractions here is the reconciliation room, an austere space destined to a sort of couple therapy that seemed to work successfully. Those who had enough of married life were jailed for a few weeks in this room, until they came to their senses. Meanwhile, the couple shared a small table and a single bed, a single dish, one spoon and one jug for water. Legend has it that a single couple remained adamant in its decision to split, but even they put up with one another eventually.

In the centre of Cârţa village sits the only surviving Cistercian Abbey in Romania and the easternmost in Europe.
The legend has it that around 1202, when they built the spectacular monastery, the Cistercian monks made the very Devil green with envy, and he vainly tried to beat their craftsmanship.
These ascetic monks, famous for their diligence, erected here an edifice that proved influential for Transylvanian architecture. Originally Romanesque, the abbey was later rebuilt in an Early Gothic style.
The rows of columns and vaults, the Gothic rosettes, the ruins with their nostalgic patina give this place an austere, peculiar and magnificent charm.

From Rășinari to Săliște, Poiana Sibiului and Jina, in the Mărginime villages time moves slower and the air smells like freshly mown grass. The natives live by rules unchanged for many generations, leading their flocks of sheep to pasture and doing the daily household chores. The country has thus kept alive its cultural heritage and its identity.
For tourists, Mărginime means a foray into a pastoral landscape long since gone in Western Europe. With its farmers’ homes where you can taste exquisite cheese, with its cattle trails and mountain crests that reach to the skies, in Mărginimea Sibiului you literally find yourself near a low foothill, at heaven’s doorsill.
Mărginimea Sibiului concentrates most of Romania’s old traditions and authentic spirit.
