Learning ice skating on frozen lakes remains one of the funniest childhood experiences. You could repeat it on the ice rinks in Sibiu’s Grand Square (until February 2) or Cisnădie.

The connoisseurs say that the slopes at the Platoș Arena ski resort are among the best groomed in the country. The snow layer is always impeccable, and the slopes are ideal for skiing or snowboarding, as well as for your first lessons with the most friendly instructors. There is even a sledding slope. For even more winter experiences, climb the peaks of the Fagaras mountains and watch the valley and the frozen ridges. Transfăgărășan is open to Bâlea Cascada, from where you could take a cable car to Balea Lake. The Igloo Village is under construction!

👹 An unusual event

Among the most exciting winter events in the area is a less common tradition based on the legend of a fearless girl, named Ursula. It is said that during a Turkish raid, she dressed as the devil and frightened the enemies with her sounds and appearance. Today, those who resist her are rewarded with delicious donuts.
