The exhibition entitled: “Patriotic Work. Early scenes of the communist regime, from the collection of the Brukenthal National Museum”, offers you the opportunity for a fascinating journey into Romanian history, seen through a selection of engravings signed by Romanian artists active in the years 1940-1960. This exhibition offers a broad and detailed picture of how art served as a reflection of devotion to the country and the demands of the communist ideology.
The exhibition facilitates the exploration of artists' reinterpretations and reactions to the ideologies and directives imposed by the communist regime, thus providing a platform for a more nuanced understanding of the historical and cultural context of that time. Through the works of Romanian artists, visitors are invited to be captivated and inspired by the ingenuity and resistance of that period. At the center of attention are works signed by eminent figures of the Romanian artistic landscape, such as Geta Brătescu, Eva (Siegler) Cerbu, Vasile Celmare, Gheorghe Ivancenko, Simion A. Iuca, Mariana Petrașcu-Riegler, etc.
